Huntington Beach Energy Center
Huntington Beach, California
This EPC project replaced an existing power plant with a new natural-gas facility. Fitted with state-of-the-art emissions control equipment, the completed energy center can power nearly 1 million homes with the cleanest available natural gas.
Work included designing and building a new 650-MW, 2×1 combined-cycle plant, a 230kV four-breaker radial bus configuration substation, and three underground 230kV circuits, as well as rerouting existing overhead transmission lines and performing tie-ins to existing utilities.
MEC provided all electrical installation, including medium-voltage terminations ranging from 4160 V to 35 kV.
