MEC has the proven experience at every stage of project development, our management of projects and responsiveness to fast-tracked scheduling allows our team to start construction as soon as possible after receiving Notice-To-Proceed. From adding a relay to installing overhead catenary, to handling the most technically sophisticated multi-million dollar rail and power transmission system upgrades, MEC is the leading “One Stop” option for all electrical construction needs. We set the standards for budgeting, scheduling, quality and safety.
Starting in July 2012, Mass. Electricn Construction Co. (MEC) crews replaced three (3) underground 34.5kV XLPE cable circuits, connecting three substations in Portland, Maine. All work took place in the Old Bay neighborhood of Portland, an active area with significant business and tourist traffic.
MEC worked as a subcontractor to Kiewit Pacific Co. at the Bakersfield Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). The project entailed the construction and upgrade of the WWTP from a 16mgd to 32mgd capacity plant.
This design-build project will extend BART service 5.4 miles south from the existing terminal station in Fremont to Warm Springs, in Northern California’s East Bay area. A double-track line will be constructed from the Fremont Station, through Central Park Subway, past a future passenger station site at Irvington, and then along-side Union Pacific Rail Road (UPRR) tracks to an existing UPRR switching yard at Warm Springs.
In October 1998, Mass Electric Construction Co. formed a joint venture with Garnet Electrical Co. of Florence, AL to perform the electrical work at the 1.7 million sq. ft. Delta IV Rocket Facility. In less than nineteen months, the site was transformed from farmland into a facility capable of mass producing forty rockets per year.
This bid-build project for the traction power electrification of Charlottte’s first light rail system included installation of 7 miles of at-grade and 3 miles of elevated track. Eight pre-fabricated 1.5MW substations and related feeder work were performed along the main right of way. In addition, 2 miles of simple catenary, substations and auxilliary systems were provided at the yard and maintentance facility.
MEC completed the 80,000 square foot tenant fit-up of the lab research facility at Children's Hospital Boston (CHB), Center for Life Science/Boston (CLSB) in September 2008.
The goal of the Central Artery/Tunnel project, more commonly know as the “Big Dig”, was to replace the six-lane elevated highway with an eight-to-ten-lane underground expressway directly beneath the existing road, culminating at its northern limit in a 14-lane, two-bridge crossing of the Charles River. After the underground highway opened to traffic, the crumbling elevated highway was demolished and in its place is open space.
When it opened in 1959, the original Central Artery comfortably carried about 75,000 vehicles a day. By the late 1980s, it carried upwards of 200,000, making it one of the most congested highways in the United States. This extraordinary traffic mess, often congested for 16 hours per day, represented a continuous economic and quality-of-life drain on Boston and New England.
In light of the threat presented by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority had to come up with a way to monitor its new $15 Billion underground highway. Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) was selected to be the installer for the security system, which would allow the new Central Artery/Tunnel (CA/T) system to be monitored from one central location.
