MEC has the proven experience at every stage of project development, our management of projects and responsiveness to fast-tracked scheduling allows our team to start construction as soon as possible after receiving Notice-To-Proceed. From adding a relay to installing overhead catenary, to handling the most technically sophisticated multi-million dollar rail and power transmission system upgrades, MEC is the leading “One Stop” option for all electrical construction needs. We set the standards for budgeting, scheduling, quality and safety.
Construction on the eighteen miles of the six-lane, multimodal Intercounty Connector (ICC) variable toll highway began in 2007 and was fully completed in 2014. With the successful completion of similar highway and ITS projects in Colorado, Florida, and Massachusetts, MEC was selected to complete the ICC Contract B (ICCB) segment of the five-phase ICC design-build project.
As the signature of Boston’s Big Dig project, the Leonard P. Zakim/Bunker Hill Bridge (Zakim Bridge), completed in 2002 and fully opened in 2004 is not only the world’s widest asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge, but it is also the first asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge in the nation. The bridge, which spans from Boston’s North End to Charlestown, MA, consists of ten lanes, and merges I-93 and U.S. Route 1 traffic across the Charles River, into and out of the Thomas P. O’Neill Jr. Tunnel.

On April 11, 2006, a Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) led joint venture was awarded a contract for the electrical wiring and setting of a 248-foot, 6,660kW turbine for Mass Maritime Academy.
The Mass. Electric maintenance team is tasked to maintain 512 miles of the Signals and Communications System encompassing 5 counties in Southern California with over 230 trains that run daily carrying more than 50k riders
This project is the first of its kind to be awarded in the U.S. Rail Industry. It is the first Positive Train Control (PTC) system that complies with the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008. The Rail Safety Improvement Act requires all passenger and freight railroads to install PTC by 2015. The overall project scope includes design, installation, documentation, testing, integration, and commissioning of PTC technology on the 512-miles of the Metrolink commuter rail system.
The MIA Mover, a dual track 1.25-mile long elevated people mover system, connects MIA passengers to the Rental Car Center (RCC) and the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC). The power rail powered Automated People Mover (APM) system is a series of rubber tired driverless vehicles operating on two raised concrete plinths.
The Elizabeth River Tunnels Public-Private Partnership (P3) project is underway in the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia. MEC’s work includes construction and pre-construction services for electrical systems for the new Midtown Tunnel and Martin Luther King Expressway, and rehabilitation of the existing Downtown and Midtown Tunnels. Through 2018, MEC will be working with SKW Constructors, a Skanska, Kiewit, Weeks Marine Joint Venture.
In April 2012 Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) began installation of a roof-mounted solar system on the Milton Academy ACC Building. The project consists of the design and installation of a 192.27 kWp solar power system. The system will operate parallel to the utility supply, and will offset the amount of daily power sourced by the facility.
Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) crews worked on the installation of a 2.5MW ground mounted solar photovoltaic system in North Brookfield, MA. Working as a subcontractor for Gehrlicher Solar America Corp.
