To meet new federal clean air standards, this project added new scrubbers to an operational 1,884-MW plant. Dry scrubbers installed on the existing chimneys remove 100,000 tons of sulfur dioxide per year by piping plant exhaust through a lime mix fed by adjacent silos. The mixture chemically bonds with the sulfur dioxide, producing waste ash that is safely landfilled on site. Bag houses attached to the chimneys prevent particle matter from escaping.

MEC managed the installation of all duct bank, conduit, cable tray, wire and terminations associated with the novel integrated deacidification (NID) process. Work included relocating an existing cable tray feeding all units without interrupting plant operations. MEC also oversaw the installation of two additional 23kV breakers, bus, foundations, steel and duct bank at the facility switchyard.
