Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) was responsible for the supply, transport, installation, and commissioning of a prefabricated15kV/1MW/750Vdc TPSS as part of the design-build project to replace the 30-year-old Ruby Junction Yard substation.

Mass. Electric obtained required permits to transport the substation and other permits required by AHJs in close coordination with the local electric company and the civil contractor. MEC field tested the substation and provided commissioning support and managed installation of  new traction power equipment in a functioning yard without disrupting operations.

The major elements of the work consist of:

  • Substation design
  • Manufacturing, delivery and assembly/installation of the substation
  • Landing of final connections into the substation as required
  • Field testing
  • Commissioning support
